Mary Ogden Abbott papers, 1764-1981, bulk: 1920-1980.

Papers of artist, traveler, hunter, and equestrian Mary Ogden Abbott of Concord, Mass., 1920-1981, includes correspondence with her mother Mary Adams Abbott, her brother John Adams Abbott, and her friend Frank Masland; other letters to and from her mother, brother, grandmother Mary Hone Adams, other brother Henry Adams Abbott, and other friends; travel writings and notes; sketches; scrapbooks; published pamphlets of her adventures; legal and financial papers; maps; clippings; and Abbott family genealogical notes. Papers pertain to her extensive travels by car and horseback made with her mother, 1920-28, including travels to California, Montana, the Grand Canyon, the Far East, Middle East, and Europe; wild game hunting in India and Mexico; and travels down the San Juan River with friends called the 'River Rats' or 'Canyoneers.' Other subjects include Abbott's art, including her drawings and woodcarvings; gardening; poetry; plays by her mother; her daily life in Concord, Mass.; her equestrian activities with the Middlesex Hunt Club in South Lincoln, Mass; and her participation with the Adams Memorial Society of which she was president. This collection also includes, bills and deeds of the Griggs family of New Hampshire, 1764-1828, and published booklets on the 'Abbott's of Lowell in the Civil War.'
