[Victory medal]. 1919.

This medal was instituted in 1919 to commemorate the victory of the Allies over the Central Powers. Each of the Allies issued a Victory Medal to their own nationals. All issues were to have the common obverse of a picture of Victory, with "The Great War for Civilisation" on the reverse. Approximately 5,725,000 British Victory medals were issued.
