David Bayard Ogden legal notebook, [ca. 1796-1849].

These papers consist of an undated legal notebook apparently used by David B. Ogden and possibly two other individuals. The volume contains notes on legal terms and actions. Inserted into the volume is a loose letter from 1844 written by David B. Ogden to John I. Young pertaining to Ogden's presence at a Whig meeting in Pompton Plains, New Jersey.

David B. Ogden was born on October 31, 1775 in Morrisania, New York. He was admitted to the bar as an attorney in 1796 and as a counselor in 1799. He settled in New York City where he set up a law practice. David B. Ogden married Margaretta Ogden and they had eight children together. He died on Staten Island, New York on July 16, 1849.
