Military collection [manuscript], 1838-2010.

Collection created by the Oregon Historical Society and documenting United States military actions, with a focus on Oregon events and individuals. The collection includes but is not limited to letters, rosters, muster rolls, ration books, recollections, and official documents. Included are a number of documents relating to the career of Ulysses S. Grant. Filed mostly chronologically, there are more materials on the Indian Wars such as Rogue River, Cayuse, and Yakima Wars, Mexican War, and Spanish-American War, World Wars I and II, and less materials on the Civil War and conflicts after 1945. Microfilmed records include: the diaries of Edward E. Brodie, written at Fort Stevens, 1865-1900; materials relating to Forts Canby, and Watson; and post returns of Fort Orford, 1851-1856.

Ulysses S. Grant (born Hiram Ulysses Grant, April 27, 1822, Point Pleasant, Ohio-died July 23, 1885, Wilton, New York) was the 18th president of the United States, serving from 1869 to 1877.
