William Fordyce Mavor subscription list, 1803.

This collection consists of a document in scroll format, with original pages glued together to form one document. It contains a brief publisher's review of Mavor's Universal History, Ancient and Modern, from the earliest records of time to the general peace of 1802. It also contains a listing of the names and hometowns of the New Jersey men who agreed to purchase it through David Allinson. Notable subscribers included Elisha Boudinot, Joseph Clark, William Halsey, Alexander MacWhorter, Samuel Pennington, John Rutherfurd, and Richard Stockton.

Joseph Clark was born in Elizabethtown, New Jersey in 1751. He went to the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) before the War of Independence broke out. Clark served in the Hunterdon County Militia of the Second New Jersey Regiment during the Revolution.
