Alfred Friendly (1911-1983) was born in Salt Lake City, the son of Edward Rosenbaum and Harriet Friendly. He graduated from Amherst College in 1933 where he excelled in Economics and Latin. After graduation he secured a position at the Commerce Department in Washington. From 1935-1936, Friendly, with close friend Chalmers M.
