Contains the following types of materials: photographs, postcards. Covers the following wars: Philippine Insurrection, World War I (WWI). Contains photographs of the following military unit: 31st U.S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment. General description of the collection: The William A. Castle photograph collection consists of a small collection covering the career of William A. Castle, who was a regular army officer attaining the rank of colonel. The early photos are portrait shots of the young lieutenant. The WWI photos are of British and Australian troops who were visited by Captain Castlein the Somme Sector of France. Following WWI, Captain Castle was assigned as an observer with the White Russian Armies in 1919-1920 and the photos are of his associates, both American and Russian. There is one photo of a group in front of an airplane in 1933 at the Air Corps Advanced Flying School, Kelly Field, Texas. The remainder of the collection are nonmilitary-related photos of the family and family outings.
