David George Sherman graduated from Amherst College (1969) and received his M.A. and Ph. D. from Cornell University in 1974 and 1982 respectively. He taught at Southern Illinois University, 1984-1986, Dartmouth College, 1988-1989 and University of California Irvine, 1989-1990.
