John and Seymour Rennolds collection, 1933-ca. 1992.

The collection consists of materials that the Rennolds collected on the twentieth-century lyricist and composer, Johnny Mercer. A significant part of the manuscript collection, in the General files series, is made up of various handlists and catalogues of the songs, recordings, and movies of Johnny Mercer. The correspondence documents the Rennolds' collecting of the sound recordings and sheet music of Mercer. The collection also includes documents and publications on or from Johnny Mercer's school, Woodberry Forest School. The music and lyrics in the collection include numerous copies of Mercer's music, in manuscript (arrangements, piano-vocal scores, lead sheets) and printed (sheet music, arrangements, songbooks) forms. Among other composers represented in the collection are David Raksin and Paul Whiteman. The collection includes approximately 800 sound recordings, 50 printed songbooks, and 800 pieces of sheet music.
