State Hospital, Little Rock, Ark., Photo from WPA [graphic] / Ernie Deane [photographer]. [196-?]

Copy negative taken of State Hospital in Little Rock, Pulaski County, Arkansas from the Works Progress Administration Collection. Expansion of the State Hospital was authorized and funded by the legislature in 1919 and 1931. Located on West Markham Street, the building first opened in 1883 as the Arkansas State Lunatic Asylum, later known as the Arkansas Insane Asylum. The buildings were torn down in about 1960 and a new State Hospital was built in its place that was dedicated in 1964. Deane more than likely took this copy negative during his career with the Arkansas Gazette.
