Diary summarizing proceedings in Parliament from circa February 29-May 19, 1624, bound together with a manuscript copy (in the same hand) of a petition of the House of Commons to the King to "take away the causes of the decay of trade in this kingdom, particularly to reforme the abuses of the Marchant Aventurers Pattent," April 1624. Attributed to Holles.

The South Sea Company was founded in 1711 to trade with Spanish America, on the assumption that the War of the Spanish Succession would end with a treaty permitting such trade. The Treaty of Utrecht, 1713, was less favourable than had been hoped, but confidence in the Company remained artificially high.
