Part of a group of negatives taken for September 16, 1960, Arkansas Gazette article "Pilot Forest Near Mabelvale Progressing Nicely," B1:2. Forester Dick (Richard W.) Taylor walks through pines in the 65-acre Pilot Forest on the Heinke Farm near Mabelvale, Pulaski County, Arkansas. The Pilot Forest was created to show small farmers how to raise trees as a crop. Sign at the entrance of the Pilot Forest states "Another Pilot Forest of the Southern Pulpwood Conservation Association, Founded 1939, Cut Wisely, Prevent Fires, Grow More Trees, To Build a Better South, Sponsored by International Paper Company, Heinke Farm Landowner."
