Popes and Catholic Church scrapbook, 1895-1902.

Scrapbook of newspaper clippings on Catholic topics including, but not limited to: Pope Leo XIII; the Catholic Church; cathedrals; American cardinals and archbishops; monks; saints; christianity; christian art and stories; and the visit of papal delegate Cardinal Martinelli to Detroit in 1901. The scrapbook has a red cover with leather trim. The edges of the spine are broken off and chipping. There is a colored illustration of the Biblical visitation of Mary to her cousin Elizabeth on the cover. The illustration is identified as the work of Corwin, Knapp, Linson, 1899. The bookplate of Robert and Mamie Oakman is in the front of the scrapbook. Mamie was probably the compiler. The first page is signed by Mrs. Joseph A. Moross, Mamie's mother. The contents of the scrapbook are quite acidic.
