John Blair Linn family papers, 1776-1912.

The collection contains Centre and Clinton counties, Pennsylvania, legal papers and correspondence of John B. Linn, attorney and Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; most of the legal papers concern the estate of William C. Wilson. Correspondents include J. Merrill Linn, Messrs. Beaver, Gephart & Dale, Sidney D. Furst, and Joseph H. Hayes. Also includes an edited galley of an article submitted to the Democratic Watchman newspaper, an invitation to the opening ceremonies of the International Exhibition in Philadelphia, 1876, specimens of paper currency collection by Linn, and a receipt for one dollar contributed to the 1912 campaign fund of the Washington Party of Pennsylvania (Theodore Roosevelt for President, Hiram W. Johnson for Vice President).

The Centennial Exhibition of 1876 marked the 100th anniversary of American freedom. The celebration took place in Philadelphia from May 10 to November 10 and attracted over eight million visitors. John Blair Linn was born on October 16, 1831, in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Linn attended the Lewisburg Academy and Marshall College in Mercersburg and graduated in 1846. He practiced law in Union and Sullivan counties before he moved his practice to Centre County in 1871. Linn became interested in preserving the history of his home and the surrounding area.
