Speeches in Parliament, 1625-1628.

Manuscripts recording the speeches made in Parliament by various people. Each volume is written in a different hand. The first volume bears the number Phillipps Mss. 2401, the second volume Phillipps Mss. 9462. Both are bound in full leather. Volume 1 ([6], 244, [7], 325 leaves) is evidently bound in sheep, over wooden boards, with head and tail of spine mostly chipped away, and spine title Speeches in Parliament, 1626. Volume 2 (371 pages) is bound in calf, with (chipped) spine title M:S. Parliam.t affairs.

English antiquary and collector. He began collecting while at Rugby School and Oxford. On inheriting his father's estate at Middle Hill in Worcestershire, Phillipps embarked on a career of collecting manuscripts and books. His collection of manuscripts eventually numbered over 60,000 items.
