Lloyd Fry of Kalona, Iowa, studied to be a vet at Iowa State College in Ames. He corresponded frequently with his brother Paul and his mother. His letters describe his active student life playing baseball and basketball, working on student plays, and student military drills at Ames. In the late 1930s Lloyd worked at a Swift Plant in South St. Paul inspecting cattle before slaughter and as a Civilian Conservation Corps veterinarian in Minnesota.
