Queen Victoria letters and photographs, 1839-1883.

The collection consists of two letters, three illustrations, and eleven pages of obituaries and funeral notices pasted in a diary concerning the death of her personal servant, John Brown. Included are a short letter to Henry Nich, 12 Dec. 1839, accompanying a Christmas present from the Queen, and a letter to Lord Palmerston, 29 Feb. 1856, suggesting a matter be placed in the hands of Lord Clarendon. The illustrations include two portraits of Victoria, one a youthful full-length engraving and the other a cabinet photograph, and a photograph of an open pony cart with Victoria and servants, including John Brown. The documents on John Brown include a copy of his menu, handwritten notes by the Queen, death notice, funeral announcement, and newspaper clippings on John Brown's death.
