Negative taken for July 14, 1963, Arkansas Gazette article "Helena --- It's Truly a 'Marked' City," 5E:2. In Helena, Phillips County, Arkansas, by State Highway 6, a marble statue of Pere Jacques Marquette, the Jesuit missionary, who traveled to Helena. Plaque on monument reads, "Tribute of the Catholic Knights of America to Pere Marquette, S.J., who with Louis Joliet discovered the Mississippi River 17, June 1673 at Prairie de Chien, Wis., terminated his exploration in Arkansas, returned north 17, July 1675. Dedicated Oct. 19, 1936, Most Rev. John R. Morris, D.D., Bishop of Little Rock, Ark."
