Biographical note: Pioneer banking family; William Brophy arrived in Cochise County in 1881 and was general manager of the Copper Queen Consolidated Mercantile Company, founded the Bank of Bisbee and Bank of Douglas, and mining, property, and other interests. His son, Frank Cullen Brophy inherited his business interests, controlled the Bank of Douglas, and was involved in ranching, mining, and political activism. Biographical note: Banker, rancher, writer and conservative political activist; Frank Brophy was an amateur historian and wrote articles which appeared in various publications as well as numerous letters to the editor. He purchased the Babocomari Ranch in 1936 where he bred and raised Hereford cattle. He was director of the Arizona National Livestock Show, chairman of the Arizona Racing Commission and a member of the State Fair Commission and was involved with many charities. From th...

Biographical note: Banker and general manager of the Copper Queen Consolidated Mercantile Company and in 1912, the Phelps Dodge Mercantile Company in Bisbee. As manager for the Phelps Dodge store, he was a defendant in the Bisbee Deportation trial. Along with James S. Douglas, William founded the Bank of Bisbee and the Bank of Douglas.
