Taller de Gráfica Popular pictorial collection [picture]. [1935-1990]

Collection consists of posters (74+), fliers (71+), prints (50+), serials (57+), filmstrip illustrations (5+), and ephemera (76+) ranging in date from 1935-1990. Subjects predominatly focus on international issues of the 1940s-1960s, including fascism and national socialism, in addition to Mexican topics, such as agriculture, labor issues, and the nationalization of the petroleum industry. Urban and rural issues are addressed and most all works contain a social/political message conveyed through texts and graphics. Most works are identified by artist, date, and a title. There are a small number of TGP-related works and works done by guest artists invited to work at the TGP.

Born in Chicago to a Russian father and German mother, Yampolsky moved to Mexico in 1944 and studied at La Esmeralda school of painting and sculpture in Mexico City. Before taking up photography, Yampolsky worked as an engraver at the Taller de Grafica Popular studio, founded in Mexico in the 1940s by artists who produced for the masses.
