The school for scandal : manuscript, [177-?].

Autograph manuscript of and early draft of the play which later developed into "The School for Scandal." The first notebook contains the play to the end of the discovery scene and a paragraph of suggested dialogue for the 5th act. There are also jotting for other parts of the play (2 p.). The second notebook is lettered on wrapper "Act 3rd Sir Peter Teazle" but begins with Act 4, Scene I. This version of the scene introduced "Sir Oliver" disguised as a poor relation, differing in this respect from the version of the first notebook. Following this scene are notes and scraps of suggested dialogue for use throughout the play, undated. Together with ALS from Mrs. Barton Currie (2 leaves) laid in.
