Michigan city maps, 1831-1919.

Series 53-58 of record group 58-17 consists of seven maps of several Michigan cities. The first is a map of the city of Detroit, as laid out by the governor and judges (1831), John Farmer, draftsman. The map shows streets, sections, military reserves, boundaries of lots and alleys, and occasionally owner's name. The second map is of Detroit and environs (1919), Wm. Sauer, draftsman, printed by Topping-Sanders Co. The third map is of Gladstone, showing Bay View, Goodman's, Buckeye and furnance additions (1910). The fourth map is of the city of Mackinaw (1857), R.C. Phillips, surveyor. It shows transportation lines and proposed railroad and ferry lines, docks, old Fort Park. The fifth and sixth maps are of Sault Ste. Marie (1853). The first shows claims, missions, military and Indian reserves, cemeteries, public square, school and church lots (Wm. Edmunds, surveyor). The second map includes new measures and notes of discrepancies of the first map. The final map is a supplemental map of private claims at Sault Ste. Marie, Thomas Whelpley, D.S. (1855).
