Thanks her for writing these letters on her behalf. Does not know what to do and desides to wait it out. Like the baby picture. They were disappointed that Mr. Markham did not come. Will see Mr. Dake in Buffolo. Asks if she heard of Mrs. Tindell's sudden death.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
