Letters to Dr. Joseph Collins, 1929-1933.

Glasgow writes to Collins on a variety of literary subjects. In a letter 1929 January 11, Glasgow gives her opinion on literary prizes which she feels may promote an appreciate of literature but do not promote the writing of books, which will be written regardless of prizes. In a series of letters 1929 May 21 to May 26, Collins criticizes characters in "They stooped to folly," and Glasgow replies to Collins, expounding at length on the character of Littlepage who is typical of many men she has known who cannot "translate imaginary adventures into actual ones." Collins replies that he did not mean to criticize the book, but that certain changes would have made the book more interesting to him and Glasgow responds that she was exhausted when she wrote and that she appreciates his suggestions. In a letter 1933 July 29, Glasgow conveys her interest in a book by Collins ("The doctor looks at life and death?") which recalls conversations they have had with Pearce Bailey.
