[Letter] 1849, Jan. 30 to John A. Broadus, Univ. of Va. / Carry [Broadus]. 1847.

Written shortly after her marriage to William A. Whitescarver. Her father, Edmund Broadus had offered to give her a slave girl, Maria, and she said "it would be well to have some little body who could nurse the child, bring water and wood, etc." but "we do not ask this if it involves a sacrfice on father's part." Caroline M. Broadus was John Albert Broadus's older sister.
