[Letter] 1849 Aug. 21, Culpepper to John A. Broadus, Berryville, Clarke County, Va. / J.M. Broadus. 1847.

Wrote "the sale of father's negroes came off yesterday, and was quite as good a one as could have been expected." Lists names and amounts received for 8 slaves. A total of $3689 was received. "Father gets money from Sam Rixey, $1200 to pay his other debts here, so in some sense he may be said to be out of debt. At least he will be free from annoyance. Help me to rejoice over this blessed consummation." Edmund Broadus had sunk money in a gold mine in Culpeper. He also lost much from security depts. See A.T. Robertson.
