[Letter] 1877 Jan. 8 Newton Centre to [John A.] Broadus / Alvah Hovey. 1877.

Hovey urges Broadus to finish his ms. of Matthew for the new commentary Hovey is editing, because "it is desirable to open our campaign as soon as practicable." He also is depending on Broadus for the commentary on Revelation "for I can think of no other man to whom I would be willing to assign it." He asks, "is Prof. Toy the man to write on the Pastoral Epistles?" He did not doubt Toy's ability to do the work, "but is he the man for the practical part?" He would have offered Toy Mark's gospel, but "it seemed to me quite desirable to secure one well-known contributer in England." He lists the proposed arrangement for the rest of the work, and asks Broadus to "drop me a line soon."
