[Letter] 1877 Jan. 3, Ninety-six, S.C. to Cousin John [John A. Broadus], Greenville, S.C. / Luther Broaddus. 1877.

Sent Broadus five dollars for the student fund. Says, "I declined the propostion to take the school. In doing so, I surrendered a prospect--of at-least--$1000 for the promise of $300, but I shall feel that the sacrifice was a very small one, if by making it I shall be able to add even slightly to my usefulness as a preacher of the gospel. The churches are behind with my salary, but I do not believe they will permit us to suffer."
