[Letter] 1875 Dec. 6, Louisville, Ky. to Bro. [John A.] Broadus / James P. Boyce. 1876.

Boyce opposed [A.J.A.] Jaeger as professor on numerous grounds. He saw him as imprudent, "not thoroughly sound", and a constant source of dissent. "The truth is that I have looked at times to Jaeger as one possible librarian and yet have feared that in these many particulars he would give us little usefulness. I do not know any measure that could do more harm. ... As to what Jaeger can do. Why can he not teach a school, give lessons in German, give lectures at academies and schools? But above all I cannot see why he cannot preach."
