Charles Macklin collection, 1743-1793.

The volume contains four portrait engravings of Charles Macklin pasted in; two pamphlets published during the feud between Macklin and David Garrick (Mr. Macklin's reply to Mr. Garrick's answer, and Reply to Mr. Garrick's answer to the case of Charles Macklin, comedian, both 1743); two letters, 1763, to Joseph Austin; three letters, 1773 and 1774, to George Colman; account sheet from Covent Garden, 1773; letters, 1785, to his wife, Elizabeth (Bess). Also, a 1786 playbill for a benefit performance; the handwritten draft of his play, The Spoiled child (51 p.); and printed copies of two of his plays, The Man of the world and Love a la mode, both published by J. Bell, London, 1793.
