[Letter] 1858 July 21, Alexandria to [John Albert Broadus] / J.M. Broadus. 1858.

John had written to him concerning his romance, which he hoped to keep secret from the congregation which he pastored in Charlottesville, Va. James pronounced the news of John's last letter "all right. The necessity for being quiet about it is rather hard, but suppose it must be so." Concerning John's plans to communicate with his friend through the principal of the Albemarle Female Institute, "As envelopes are expensive, you will, of course, not draw too extravagantly on Mr. Hart's charity, and it is to be feared the cousin student will not be sick all the time." Broadus married Charlotte Eleanor Sinclair, his second wife, Jan. 4, 1859.
