May 30. W.E. Eliott was excluded by the "first church" of Charlottesville and appealed to Broadus for "advice how to proceed in such a case" [folder 1/33]. June 11. Broadus had visited the couple, and L.H. wrote that her husband "seemed sorry that I should have been so much excited when speaking" with him. She wrote to apologize and explain her behavior. [folder 1/33] June 13. The church had agreed to meet on the issue, and L.H. wrote that, although her husband was ill, they would attempt to be there that night [folder 1/34]. June 18. L.H. wrote that her husband was not well enough to make the trip to Charlottesville. Requested Broadus to influence the church to appoint a committee to investigate the matter [folder 1/34]. June 20. W.E. explained the charges of financial misconduct which resulted in his being excluded by the church. June 29. W.E. wrote that he would be in Charlottesville on [July] 7 [folder 1/34]. July 14. W.E. wrote to inform Broadus of the existence of a "certicate proving what" he was charged with was wrong [folder 1/35].
