[Correspondence from First Baptist Church, New York to John A. Broadus] 1856 Oct. / Thos. T. Devan. 1856.

Oct. 4. Because the "1st Baptist Church of this city has been bereaved of its pastor (Rev. Dr. Cone), she is obliged to appeal to the kindness of ministering brethren for the supply of its pulpit." He asks if Broadus would supply "any Lord's day in November next that may suit your convenience." Oct. 15. Answered Broadus's letter of the 11th, proposing "to preach for us in December, and as you leave to our discretion the naming of the day we would beg leave to say that it would be more convenient for us to see you on the first Lord's day of Dec."
