[Letter] 1856 Aug. 22, Richmond, Va. to [John Albert Broadus] / B. Manly. 1856.

Asked Broadus if he would be willing "to accept charge of Leigh St. Church in Richmond, provided an adequate support can be offered you? Or, to commence at the beginning-- are you able to entertain a proposition from any quarter at present." As the church could only offer $1000, Manly offered a teaching position to supplement the salary. "Your family are growing and need to be provided for. Your opportunities of extensive and permanent influence, your advantages of society, literary culture, and ministerial intercourse, etc., etc., etc. would be very great here."
