Tells Markham that she is looking forward to the 1915 Convention. Goes on to say that Emanuel Swedenborg had said that people will appreciate him not until 150 years after his death, which is now. Sends him a copy of "The Master Mind."

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901).
