[Orderly book, 1841-1845].

Cover title states "Records of the regiment of Light Infantry in the Third Brigade, First Division ; records of the 1st Regiment, 1st brigade, 1st division", the bulk of the records concerns the latter. Entries concern the general, brigade and regimental orders. Many of the orders were written into the book, although, there are also orders via letters (handwritten and printed) and pamphlets tipped in along with records concerning the choice of officers to fill vacancies.

Ten companies comprised the 12th Regiment, Massachusetts Volunteer Militia: five from Boston, one from North Bridgewater, one from Abington, one from Weymouth, one from Stoughton, and one from Gloucester. After organization was completed, the regiment was ordered to Fort Warren in Boston Harbor.
