An anonymous journal for the months of January-November 1718, May 1719, July-September 1719, January-August 1720, November-December 1720, and May 1721, concerning the financial and commercial undertakings of John Law, whose bank, established in 1716, came to be the major financial institution in the country. The bank acquired control of the Mississippi Company with its monopoly on the trade of Louisiana and became involved in the settlement of the lower Mississippi area. Other companies were taken into Law's organization and there merged to form the Compagnie des Indes.
