Benjamin Penhallow Shillaber was an American humorist, journalist, editor and poet. Creator of the beloved American character "Mrs. Partington" and editor of the "Carpet-Bag", to which periodical Artemus Ward and Mark Twain sent their first contributions; "it was through Shillaber that they readily became a part of the ever-broadening stream of American humor." --Dictionary of American Biography.
