Photographs of local news events dating from the late 1930s-1951. Topics include public and society events, the arts, aviation, shipping, U.S. armed forces, holidays and celebrations, recreation, education, organized labor, politics and government, crime, urban development and building projects. Focuses principally upon San Francisco and the San Francisco Bay Area, but includes events and personalities of national and international significance. Portraits and views of persons at events predominate.

Part 2 : 209 boxes (ca. 125,000 negatives) : safety film, b&w ; chiefly 4 x 5 in.
