Born the son of a German-Jewish chemist in Wiesbaden, Eliasberg grew up in Berlin, where he studied medicine, mathematics, and philosophy. He became interested at an early age in the relatively new field of psychiatry, and from 1910 to 1912 studied and worked at Heidelberg's Psychiatrische Universitätsklinik . In 1913 he took a position as a ship's doctor; when the First World War broke out, he volunteered for military duty with the German army and was awarded the Iron Cross for his service. Aft...
