The bulk of the collection consists of Naval orders spanning Wulzen's naval career and letters regarding his medals and decorations, including the Navy Cross, for which he was nominated but did not receive, and his retirement; his memoirs of his naval career entitled "A Sailor's Story: Ports of Call." Naval Career photographs, citations, certificates, and newspaper clippings complete the collection.

Donald Wesley Wulzen, Flag rank officer, was born in Hamilton, Ohio in 1912. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1935 and retired from the Navy in 1969. He served in major campaigns in the Pacific Theater during World War II, including the Kwajalein campaign and Okinawa and was CO of USS Porterfield. He graduated from the Naval War College in 1951 and served on the staff from 1958-1960. In 1961, he was Chief of Staff to CO, Amphibious Force, Pacific Fleet and in 1963 was selected for rea...
