Letters to Thomas C. Amory, 1840-1851

Letters received by Cambridge law student and later an attorney at the Boston, Mass. firm of Sohier and Welch, Thomas C. Amory. The majority of the letters were written by Harvard University classmate John Haven, Jr. during school vacation breaks from his home in New York City and relate to life away from Harvard, reports of classmates visiting New York, inquiries of Boston residents living in New York, Amory's romantic pursuits, monthly activities, and legal studies in Cambridge and Boston. Also included are letters written to Amory's father, Boston merchant Thomas C. Amory, Sr. by friends and family members including his son Ignatius Sargent Amory, brother William Amory, and brother-in-law and merchant Ignatius Sargent regarding business matters, family news, and trade affairs.
