Lossing thanks Francis for the copy of the Newport News containing his, Francis', address on modern education. Lossing adds his thoughts on his own appetite for knowledge and "the perils of our barbarous educational system." Closes with a very brief reference to Hamlet: "I should be happy; but alas! yes, 'Alas, poor Yorick!" I am as much of a 'dead head' as he." Lossing's address appears on item as The Ridge, Dover Plains, N.Y.
