Piccolomini family papers, 1197?-1724.

Collection of 129 mostly notarial and legal documents addressed to or relating to the Piccolomini family, along with two later covers with Phillipps manuscript numbers on them stored in 4 boxes with the exception of 17 oversize documents. The documents are mostly in Latin, with some Italian, and are dated from the 12th century to the 18th century, with most written in the 15th and 16th centuries. Many of the documents relate to the Church and papal intrigues, but most cover legal topics. Document types include records from lawsuits, arbitrations, petitions, grants, indulgences, bulls, and deeds. Most of the documents discuss or originate from Siena. The documents cover a variety of topics, such as ecclesiastical or political nominations, but the majority deal with real estate. Many of the documents contain notarial signets. Notes from the 18th century relate to genealogical and historical research.
