George Lincoln Goodale (1839-1923) earned an AB at Amherst College in 1860 and MD degrees from both Bowdoin and Harvard in 1863; he taught science in various fields at Bowdoin, 1868-1878. He came to Harvard in 1878 as a professor of Botany and became the first Director of the Botanical Museum in 1879.
