The collection contains information on such topics as UNM athletics, women's experiences in athletics, history of University policy, events, various departments, including the police department, campus growth, buildings, personalities of professors, the nuclear reactor on campus, experiences of UNM people during World War II, and the Harding Pegmatite mine. The University of New Mexico was established by the Legislative Assembly of the Territory of New Mexico in 1889. It was to be located in Albuquerque. Elias Stover was appointed the first president.
