Benjamin hasn't successed in placing articles in the magazine, he seeking a permanent position. Still having financial problems due to Mrs. Flower. He has sought the Christian Science Daily Minister for some interviews. He is asking Edwin for a favor. Discuss something about the New Social Conscience and wanting to stay with Edwin.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
