Benjamin got The New York American and saw a Edwin's notice of a mutual friend Mr Francis Grierson. I sent it to him. Benjamin also sent him a review on his book and is expected to publish it in the Arena. Benjamin is forced to resign from the Arena and is having problems with Mr. Brandt. He wants to start his own magazine and would appreciate contributions from his friends.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
