He put an editorial in The Arena-"A Program of Progress" and in the November Arena you will enjoy a writing about 3 representatives men---Huntington,Lord Russelland Wilhelm Liebknecht. regards to Mrs. M.

California poet. Raised near Vacaville, became a schoolteacher in Coloma and later in Oakland. Became famous overnight with publication of "The Man with a Hoe," his protest against brutalization of labor, in "San Francisco Examiner" (January 15, 1899). Following this success Markham moved to New York where he scored another triumph with "Lincoln and Other Poems" (1901). He became a well-known reader of his own poems and lecturer of idealistic views, but his creative output for remainder of life ...
