Papers of the Tufts family of Charlestown, Mass., 1798-1908 include deeds for land in Charlestown and Medford, diaries, cash books, and family correspondence which includes letters sent from George Tufts to his wife Sarah while travelling on the Green River in Kentucky, 1850; from George and Alfred to Sarah and Hannah Tufts while travelling to Hawaii, San Francisco, and Calcutta in the Ocean Pearl, 1854-56; a series of letters sent by Alice Tufts Brown to her father George, while visiting Hawaii, 1898; and a letterbook containing copies of letters received by Henry Tufts while he sailed around the world, 1845-46. Other correspondence includes a letter written to Gardiner Tufts from Clara Barton requesting information on pensions for soldiers in Andersonville, 1876. Collection also includes Tufts and Whitney family genealogical information; a logbook kept by George and Arthur Tufts as they traveled on the Mississippi River on the Arcadia, 1850; and logbooks and diaries kept by George and Arthur as they traveled on the Ocean Pearl.
